Wärtsilä has secured a contract to supply a 378 MW Flexicycle power plant to Acajutla, El Salvador. The value of the contract is approximately €240 million.
Ordered by Energía del Pacífico S.A., the power plant will be the largest and most efficient plant in El Salvador. In addition, it will be the first plant in Central America to be fired by LNG-based natural gas.
Wärtsilä’s delivery includes nineteen Wärtsilä 50SG engines and a combined cycle steam turbine, producing high fuel efficiency of close to 50 percent.
Thanks to the Dry Flexicycle technology with a closed loop cooling system, the plant does not require a single drop of water – remarkable, especially considering El Salvador has recently been plagued by some of its worst draughts in forty years.
The order is estimated to be included in Wärtsilä’s 2016 order book, while the construction of the plant itself is scheduled to reach completion in 2018.
