The first Wärtsilä X62 two-stroke engine, the latest addition to Wärtsilä’s X-Generation of engines, is now ready for full market availability.
The engine has passed its design validation and type approval tests. It has also given a top performance during the required sea trials.
Popular among the marine sector since they were introduced in 2012, the X-Generation engines feature a high stroke-to-bore ratio and thus achieve a lower engine speed and reduced brake specific fuel consumption. In addition, improved flexibility in the optimized operation of the engine is allowed by the Wärtsilä UNIC, a single electronic control system controlling the fuel injection, the exhaust valve operation, and the cylinder lubrication.
The new X62 also incorporates an advanced fuel injection system, which facilitates high levels of combustion efficiency. This results in exceptional fuel savings across the entire load range of the engine.
The first four vessels to be equipped with the new Wärtsilä X62 are currently being built in South Korea.
