The second international EuroMining trade fair brings professionals of the mining industry to Tampere Exhibition and Sports Centre between the 20th and the 21st of May.
EuroMining is the biggest trade fair for the mining industry in Finland, perhaps even in the Nordic countries.
In spite of the current state of the Finnish mining industry being far from desirable, the organizers expect this year’s EuroMining to be another success. According to Project Manager Mikael Wänskä, the event is now more international.
“One fourth of our exhibitors comes from outside Finland,” Wänskä points out. “Finland is currently suffering from a bit of a ‘mining hangover’, and that is why domestic investments have been weak. International operators may see in this their opportunity to seize a foothold in Finland and gain market shares.”
Against many people’s expectations, there are no mining companies among the exhibitors. And there shouldn’t be: in this trade fair, mining companies are the clients.
“They come here to shop, and many of them have a large budget,” says Wänskä. “It takes enormous investment to first build and then operate a mine. A mine can be almost like a small city, it requires a great deal of infrastructure and other things. Our exhibitors offer everything that a mining company could possibly need.”
